Great game, Great mechanics, FIX THE BUGS

For God’s sake,11 Bit, it’s not that hard. Almost every game I’ve played of this, I’ve died because my guy gets stuck in cover or something dumb where he can’t move or shoot. You just released a patch and it didn’t fix it, so I have no idea what you’re thinking. For those of you who’ve come here for a review, here it is: Truly beautiful game, the mechanics (when working) are perfect for the style, however, there are a few devastating bugs (as I stated earlier) that have yet to be fixed as of March 14 2015, the most devastating being your person freezing in a fight, unable to move or fight. It’s “This War of Mine’s” blue screen. Fix that, and I would give the game 5 stars. Some of you might say that it’s harsh to take away 2 stars because of one glitch. But once you experience it, to get to day 20- something and have that BS happen, when you lose your best guy to a glitch, you’ll understand. Back to the review, the graphics are gorgeous, the game is full of gut-wrenching decisions, some of which are life or death, and it integrates a level of difficulty that makes the game challenging, to a point that it may seem impossible, but then there’s that moment where you find that stash, that one thing you needed to survive, and that’s what the game is about. There are points in the game where you’ll be thriving, and only a few unsuccessful scavenges later, you’re struggling to survive. My last advice is to stick with the game. You will not survive your first game. It’s not impossible, but you’ll probably find yourself in a situation, maybe 15-25 days in where you’re like, “Ok, I get this, I’m gonna restart so I can start off well.” That’s what I did. But seriously, give it a chance.

I couldn’t get past Day 23, others were also complaining about crashing. I sent an email to the developers and they patched it within 2 days. Great game. Better customer service.

Was great, 1.2.2 unstable

Was a great game until the 1.2.2 update, now it crashes on startup. Updated through 1.2.8 without a fix

Very engaging game - Unique storyline

Very engaging game play and storyline. Excellent level of complexity and dealing with random and sometimes very difficult events. Keeping the group alive and healthy is easier said than done with the number of random issues that happen. Really unique and different game. Great job!!

Glitch Central

my survivors glitch out when its time to eat…hence, they dont eat. please fix this asap and ill go 5 star

Great game

Generally a great game, there were several bugs for instance auto quitting the game which was extremely annoying. But those bugs are fixed now. Recommend

This game is AWESOME! But...

There is a problem with the icons glitching out whenever I makes a building. This is a VERY anoying glitch, as this prevents me from doing anything with my characters during the day. This needs to be fixed. And why isn’t the 1.3 update available for the app store? It’s on steam currently, so why not here? Besides those 2 problems, this game is amazing, and I recommend it to everybody that wants a story that can give you the feels.

Most meaningful game expereince of my life for $20

I have never played a game that made my heart beat so fast with such a simplistic playing style. At first it was a little frustrating, but the game saving your progress and never allowing you to restart makes every decision so meaningful. The story is interesting but not intruisive. In a time when we are bumbarded with flashy graphics and repedative gameplay, ‘This War of Mine’ is a fresh look at side scroling and rpg style games. It also takes away the glory of shoot em up war games and presents a fresh stark perspective of warfare from the citizens perspective. It could be longer, I hope there will be future DLC, but I’m going to stop writing this and go play it some more.

Bad glitch on great game

There is a terrible glitch in the game where all the visuals move very very slowly. I tried a re-download but it didn’t work. Have the same game on my ipad and it works perfectly. PLEASE FIX! I have a iMac 10.10.5 NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256MB

Its ok, I got bored with it quickly

I get the whole “this game forces you to make tough decisions” thing. And it does. But I probably played this game maybe 2 hours total and never opened again because it was so boring. Its fairly RNG - random number generator. By that I mean, you go to a new place and - bam - bad things happen. Ok, great. Theres no skill involved from what I saw.

This War of Mine

Absolutly no instructions. 3 people who are hungry, tired and sick. Ok how do you get/make the medicine?? No hints, nothing. This is so boring, what a waste total of $20.00!

love with last of us

every time do this game, remember me The Last of Us. i love it men

This War of Mine

Awesome. I’m reading the reviews and people are saying things like, “no instructions”, and “two hours of play”. These people are the ones who will die fairly early when civilization collapses. I love this game. This is a game that forces you to think. No instructions. No sh!t. Figure it out. Very well made. Do keep up the good work. Semper Fi.

Minecraft meets Survivor in Syria

This game has consumed me, particularly in light of world events. It’s like real-world Minecraft meets Survivor in Syria. It feels like you’re looking at the world from the other end of a bull’s eye. I’m totally struck by this game.

An acquired taste?

First of all, it’s not for everyone and one must be patient to learn the actual strategies for survival… it can be quite frustrating and somber. It is immersive, but in a dark way with hunger and sadness the major “players”… along with sickness. That said, one must constantly be marshalling the resources available to best advantage, keep tabs on all group members… and have a good plan for each day’s activities… and more importantly, each night’s… which helps relieve the angst. I finally survived through the brutal WInter in my 3rd atttempt… but the game has no tutorial, so it’s learning by intuition and hoping for the best. I find i need to take a break from the game… it’s rather emotionally draining.

This Review of Mine

This could have been a real winner but ended up getting really bored with the slow days and somewhat predictable night scavenging. At first it was really interesting but then quickly became routine, then mundane, then boring. Super hard to find the right weapons to help really survive.

Powerful subject matter and art failed by terrible design

Though I praise the intent of this game, I can’t excuse the poor design choices. The visuals are great, the audio does its job, the atmosphere is moving, but the clunkly mechanics meaninglessly resist the player’s efforts. There is absolutely no tutorial or in game manual, which is unconscionable when players have so little room for error, and mandatory full screen impedes the use of an online source. You have to learn very peculiar game management functions as characters take hours to move from around your shelter to workshops that must be separated by a coarse placement grid. You can’t save-restart your way around mistakes, which would be understandable if not for the opaqueness of play. I never completed a single game because I would always want to start over once I figured out some odd quirk that made doing something basic laborious. Then to top it off one function, melting snow on a stove for fresh water, was just broken--I consulted wiki instructions after thinking I just didn’t understand, but the needed button just never appeared. This fundamentally made the game impossible to complete. Perhaps this would resolve with a reinstall, but now I have already invested too much time and effort to just start all over one more time. If you decide to play this game study wikis and forums first. It is excruciating to have a vital character die a senseless death, not because of a poor choice made, but because you were never shown how to fight, or even run. I would especially avoid this game if you are particularly sensitive, as you might find the combination of game play frustration and deep, melancholy subject matter emotionally traumatizing. The subject and aesthetics are very powerful, but that power is quite clumsily wielded.
